For the birth of our Little Star, we were looking for a sustainable project. We love the idea of planting trees, but existing projects were far away and felt impersonal. Soon after we heard about an ‘edible forest garden’ and the opportunity to plant one in Mousny, in the Belgian Ardennes, where Celine’s parents live. So the first plans for the Star Forest were made...
An edible forest garden is a place where plants are planted together in woodland like patterns that forge mutually beneficial relationships, creating a garden ecosystem that is more than the sum of its parts. You can grow fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, other useful plants, and animals in a way that mimics natural ecosystems. It creates a beautiful, diverse, largely self-maintaining, high-yield garden-forest.
The shrubs and trees will be planted in November 2015. The Star Forest will be located in Mousny, were a meadow is waiting for us! Later on, the other plants, like herbs, vegetables, mushrooms, flowers,... will be planted as well.
